Professional Experience Summary
Veteran journalist and versatile writer with 20-plus years’ experience. Skilled in interviewing sources ranging from corporate executives to teens struggling with drug addiction. Was a founding editor and frequent freelance writer for Health Journal magazine, helping to make it a regional favorite in southeastern Virginia for 15 years. Was previously a writer, editor, graphic designer and photographer for the Diocese of Virginia, Virginia State Bar, Central Fidelity Bank, and Medical College of Virginia Hospitals at Virginia Commonwealth University.

I have also written a growing collection of poetry and taken part in numerous poetry reading events.

Conducting interviews and writing various personality profiles and location features, as well as providing some photography, for these publications based in central and eastern Virginia.
Teacher / Mentor
English conversation for non-English speakers, Williamsburg, Va.
Employed a variety of online and hard-copy materials and my command of English to help three Korean students with various skill levels in speaking English (3rd grade, 5th grade, and adult) gain proficiency and confidence in conversation and social interaction.
Teacher / Mentor — Volunteer
Creative Writing Club, Berkeley Middle School, Williamsburg, Va.
Taught students at a variety of skill levels to express themselves with creative writing. Taught them to constructively critique their peers’ work, to effectively use feedback to revise their own writing, and to try their hands at several genres including poetry, fiction, memoir, and blogging.
Founding Associate Editor
Health Journal, Williamsburg, Va.
Helped launch a regional health-and-wellness magazine that was published and distributed throughout Virginia's Tidewater region for 15 years. Assisted the editor-in-chief with editing all copy, and also wrote news articles, features and cover stories on an array of health and wellness topics. Tackled challenging subjects: postpartum depression, raising kids to resist the lure of technology. Produced a four-part series on addiction, profiled young athletes overcoming disabilities.

Led a talented volunteer team to help Jamestown win the national PTA’s highest honor, the School of Excellence Award. Also concluded my 8-year stint as a chair of Reflections, the PTA arts contest.
